Playthrough of Penny's Challenge - Laid Back Camp Level starts at 0:05 Note: I avoid using Plant Food and try to use unique strategies. Never played this one and saw this by chance on the wiki, hanging out in the "Recently Edited" section. Decided to check it out. Have you ever looked at a level and thought "this is going to be drama"? Not hard, or easy, or complex, just "drama". This level is drama. It's basically a much more insidious version of the recent Cascade Kingdom map. It's a nighttime Lost City level with speed boost and invincible tiles. The level is generous with gold tiles, including two columns ahead of the boost tiles. Oh thanks. The drama then occurs when you promptly see a horde of Imp Porters coming in, setting up camp, and churn out invincible speedy Bucketheads. Oh thanks. If that's not enough drama, then have some more: -the level is very RNG with enemy placement, especially at the beginning -Torch bearing Smores Zombies will go turbo invincible and burn through your walls -Tanky Teddy Bear Gargs will also go turbo invincible and I believe if they're turbo invincible and they throw their imp, that too will be turbo invincible -Relic Hunters dive bombing your defenses; sometimes they'll be speed boosted -Icewind is here and he'll freeze plants, making you spend slots on fire plants, which in turn will likely ignite the torches you just put out. -The level further demonstrates its ribald contempt by throwing in Fishermen. Have you ever looked at a videogame enemy and said "This guy going to be drama". Let me put it to you this way: this level at one point made my higher self curse up a storm and made Source cry. Indirectly maybe, but yes. That is some drama. You know, I write this stuff and I always want to add "I wish I was joking" to a lot of it but they only give you 5000 characters. Anyway invincibility is a major drama point on this level, but fortunately there's a couple plants that can circumvent it somewhat. One is Stickybomb Rice; the stickies cannot hurt invincible zombies but will still bog them down. When there's enough of them, even the pink zombies have trouble advancing. The other is Inferno who can often yeet invincible zombies. I say often because it seems to be inconsistent, but it's way more often than not, especially if they have only just turned pink. Inferno can also heat plants and is very likely to kill a Smore Zombie if he grabs him; by the time the defense gets going the Smores guys will get cooked as soon as they enter anyway by all the bombs and fire flying around. In addition, we have Blockoli to block out Fisherman and Discotron's Jetpack guys whom will ALSO go turbo invincible if they get the chance. Stickybomb cannot hit them but the explosions will still wreck them anyway. Iceweed is here to put out torches, snag Gold Tiles, slow speedy zombies, and increase Inferno's damage. Violet nerfs Teddy Garg and prevents pink imps of doom. Gold Bloom because night map, and the level hits hard at the beginning. Speaking off, here's the caveats to this strat, due mostly to what look like bugs: -The level hits hard at the beginning. Who knows where the zombies are coming from. Fortunately Stickybomb targets three lanes, Inferno has yeet, and Blockoli/Iceweed stops speedsters. Still, it will be an absolute mess until you finally get the above defense going. -Relic Hunters sometimes will become completely immune to Inferno yeet. Not sure if it's because of the boost tiles, or Stickybomb, if it's a bug or feature, but it can be annoying -Gargs will sometimes get a speed boost while getting yeeted I think, also not sure if bug or feature, but it is drama lol None of this is a dealbreaker, because of the last plant, Intensive Carrot. Speaking of him: In this video, on a whim I swapped Jalapeno for Carrot. Already had successful runs but the bugginess with Relic Hunters made me think Carrot is more solid. What happened next is more drama than nuking Shakesphere's Theater during a game of Civ2. Without Jalapeno to quick kill gargs, they tend to break in more, but as you can see, you can turn it all around with Carrot, yeeting, and stickies. I wanted to post a better run but my higher self and Source seem to prefer this celebration of success in the face of drama lol. Some additional notes: -I've had successful runs with Carrot, Jala, and Blastberry, choose whichever one works. -I've also had successful runs with using just two columns of attackers and Blockoli at C6. Downside is you'll have much less firepower/yeet; I think Jalapeno is much better if you go that route. -If gargs throw pink imps of doom, hold it in place with Blockoli until the pink wears off -Lol at the Imp Porter conga line. In my experience, with enough Infernos they'll have trouble getting on the lawn.
