For pilots watching, this is the typical runway 17 approach into Angel Fire, New Mexico - field elevation 8,380 feet. This is the 4th highest airport in the country, so you will notice that my ground speed is a little faster than many will fly in a Saratoga. Part of that is the 11,500 ft density altitude of the day, plus I keep a little extra power in until the runway is made, just-in-case. I am an instrument rated private pilot that lived in Angel Fire (KAXX) for 9 years, full-time, so almost all of my flying is mountain flying in this area. Angel Fire is a challenging airport because of the north / south orientation with prevailing winds from the west, as well as the high density altitude. If you are interested in more of that detail or are considering flying into Angel Fire or Taos, you may want to consider watching my safety video about flying to the area here: • Flying in-and-out of Angel Fire, NM (KAXX)... This video is a test of using the DashWare software to overlay telemetry data. Also, I know the audio quality isn't the best...time to invest in a new PMA Audio Panel to fix that problem, so don't give me any crap about that please. Dashware has gone away, but future videos will likely use "Telemetry Overlay" to do the same thing. Just a note, the speeds you see in the video are "GPS Ground Speed", not airspeed, which is why you will see the variability in the speeds as I move to different locations in the airport traffic pattern. #aviationlovers #aviation #airpark #airplane #kaxx #angelfire #morenovalley #newmexico #pilot #pilotlife #pilottraining
