Dr. Richard Moreau was appointed Director of the European Foundation for the Study of Chronic Liver Failure (EF CLIF) in Barcelona in January 2024. He is a founding member of the EASL-CLIF Consortium, and served on its Steering Committee from 2009-2018. Dr. Moreau is also the former Deputy Director (2015–2021) and Honorary Director (2022–2023) of the Grifols Chair, and Chairman of EF CLIF's Scientific Advisory Board (2021-2023). Since 2018, Dr. Moreau has been an Emeritus Senior Scientist at INSERM (French NIH) in Paris, having previously held senior research roles there, including Directeur de Recherche de Classe Exceptionnelle. His research focuses on the pathophysiology and treatment of cirrhosis complications, particularly acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). He co-led the CANONIC study, which defined ACLF, and the ACLARA study, identifying Native American ancestry as a risk factor for ACLF in Latin America. He also chaired the EASL Clinical Practice Guidelines on ACLF (2023). Dr. Moreau is a member of several prestigious societies, including the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD, FAASLD since 2022), the Asia-Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), the French Association for the Study of the Liver (AFEF), and the Club Francophone pour l’Étude de l’Hypertension Portale. His prolific scientific output includes over 400 peer-reviewed publications, with an h-index of 89 (Web of Science) and 107 (Google Scholar), as well as 35 book chapters.
