Prof. Paolo Angeli is a Full Professor of Internal Medicine and Head of the Unit of Internal Medicine and Hepatology (UIMH) at the University of Padova, Italy. He leads a distinguished research group focused on the pathophysiology and treatment of acute, chronic, and acute-on-chronic liver failure, as well as liver transplantation. Prof. Angeli served as Secretary of the International Club of Ascites from 2010 to April 2018 and, since January 2018, has been Chair of the EASL-Clif Consortium. He was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Hepatology beginning in 2010 and, later since July 2019, has held the position of Editor-in-Chief, until recently till Jun 2024. He is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed articles published in leading international journals indexed by JCR. His expertise has significantly shaped international practice guidelines and position papers on the management of ascites, bacterial infections, acute kidney injury (AKI), and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) in patients with cirrhosis. Notably, he played a central role in developing the new diagnostic criteria for AKI in cirrhosis, established through a global consensus process involving leading experts in the field.
