I started training for IKMF Worlds (11.18.22) in Pentathlon the last week of Aug '22. My goal then was to break 2200 pts. As always, I reached out to my coach, Michael Son, to prepare me. Shortly after I started my wife and I talked about our plans and expenses the next 6 months - 5 plane tickets, 2 trips to AZ to see our daughter, time away from our jobs (both self-employed) - those were the big items. A trip to Europe and another week away from work just wasn't a smart financial decision at the time. But I committed to the training so I completed as scheduled and did a Pentathlon in solidarity with Team USA on the same day, totaling 2295.75. Very pleased with my effort and result but was unfulfilled as a gym PR doesn't mean anything. So I found a competition in KC offering Pentathlon as an event. Excited for the opportunity to Rank MSWC (2050pts in 85+kg weight class - I'm 95kg), I signed up. The competition is 1.21.23. On Tues of this last week I was informed that IKMF would not rank me past CMS (Candidate for Master of Sport - Im currently MS) regardless of my point total as this is just a National Event 😑 Beyond irritated as there was even a certified judge at the event. In my mind, a KG is a KG, time is time, and good reps are good reps no matter what continent you are on. I understand not setting/breaking records, but I just want the ranking. So I was refunded my money - No harm no foul from the event host. I wasn't about to drive 13 hours round trip, pay registration, hotel, food, etc for what was essentially a workout. So this is my effort in my gym today. I know it doesn't count. It's just a gym PR. Whatever. Oh yeah, I also had a biceps strain 5 weeks ago. Michael had to get creative in programming... in the last 5 weeks I've picked a 36 in one session. Going into today cleaning a 48 had me nervous. Just more proof that finding a good coach is paramount when you've got specific goals!
