I A stone and a knife: seal carving begins with humble tools. But within that small square, myriad worlds take shape. Artists bridge past and present, cultivating their craft on stones—a process that sharpens their manual dexterity and refines their appreciation for the aesthetic beauty of Chinese characters. How is this intricate craft cultivated? How do artists breathe life and aesthetic beauty into stones? The Art Museum is delighted to feature Professor Tong Kam-tang (Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Fine Arts, CUHK) demonstrating the entire process! He will walk you through the four essential steps: preparation, layout design, carving techniques, and side inscriptions, offering insights into the refined skills and artistic vision required. About the Exhibition: “The Bei Shan Tang Legacy: Chinese Seals” exhibition features about 400 pieces of precious Chinese seals, tracing the evolution of seals from the early Qin dynasty through to the modern era, demonstrating their diverse formats and the historical development.
