Even when the island gates are closed, the walk itself feels like a pilgrimage—part seaside stroll, part step through legend. 🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore Marazion is often seen as the gateway to St Michael’s Mount, but it’s more than just a starting point. Once a bustling medieval market town and trading port, it has been settled since at least the 12th century. Its name is thought to come from the old Cornish for “Thursday market,” hinting at its lively past. Today, it’s a quiet blend of galleries, old inns, and sea-facing cottages, where the view across Mount’s Bay dominates every turn. At low tide, the granite causeway appears—an ancient walkway linking the mainland to the island. Walking it feels almost surreal: one moment you’re on the beach, the next you’re following smooth stones laid by centuries of feet.
