"The Land of Good" ("أرض الخير") by Ibrahim al-Kashif | English Translation

“The Land of Good” (“ارض الخير”), better known as “I’m African, I’m Sudanese” (“انا افريقي انا سوداني”) is a song written by as-Sir Gador, one of Sudan’s most prolific and famed songwriters, and performed by Ibrahim al-Kashif, nicknamed “Abu al-Fan” (“father of art” or “father of music”) for his role in cementing the modern style of Sudanese orchestral pop, the dominant form of Sudanese music after the 1950s. “The Land of Good” is one of Sudan’s most popular patriotic songs, becoming a fixture of many protests and sit-ins during the 2019 revolution in Sudan. It’s for this reason I’ve chosen to translate it: Sudan is in the midst of another revolution against the military, which has cut off the internet to prevent the truth of its crimes being made public internationally.
