What a week it’s been. There were lots of nerves and laughter of stepping into the show ring for the very first time and somehow walking away with a red rosette! Then the quiet but determined work back home, filling the freezer one step at a time. With the loss of our pig still fresh in mind, we turned our attention to the meat birds, dressing a couple to see how they’ve grown, and then Ste headed out for a pigeon shoot to make the most of what the land provides. By Tuesday the pig returned from the abattoir, and while he was smaller than we’d hoped, he still gave us plenty of chops, joints, belly, ribs and mince to see us through the months ahead. The week ended on a brighter note still, we delve in to owning our very first livestock trailer and a brand-new mower, two investments that open a whole new chapter for our smallholding. It’s been a week of ups and downs, of learning and laughing, but above all a reminder of why we do this! The beauty of the seasons, the good food on our table, and the satisfaction of living a life rooted in the land
