(Yes, I’m a long-term fan.) I think about it every day: the jumpy acceleration of its buzzy little 3-cylinder engine, the firm thunk of its manual shifter, the rowdy spirit it brings to around-town drives and curvy roads. It rocks. Toyota introduced the GR Corolla in 2022 as a new-model hot hatch for America. It debuted with a three-cylinder turbo, 300 horsepower, 273 pound-feet of torque, all-wheel drive, and only a six-speed manual transmission. For 2025, it’s also getting an automatic, and we’re driving the auto in this video. But don’t worry! We’ll review the automatic, manual, and do the big hot hatch/sport compact comparison: GR Corolla vs. Honda Civic Type R vs. Hyundai Elantra N. We’ll also discuss: all the new mechanical bits; the placement of beloved features from the Morizo and Circuit Edition GRs; how Toyota is super versatile (Hilux? Century? Supra?
