Brachytherapy is a solid option for men in this stage because studies show that it has better cure rates, lower side effect rates, and tends to be more convenient than other standard therapies. Brachytherapy used to be the most popular form of treatment, but now, other treatments reimburse better so they are typically favored by doctors. 1:13 Positives of permanent brachytherapy. This form of therapy has higher cure rates and lower side effects than surgery or external beam radiation. Seeds are administered as an outpatient procedure and can be performed in as short as 1 hour. Men with preexisting urinary symptoms and men with large prostates can experience worsening of urinary symptoms.
