Regardless of what you call it, designing the wall and floor/ceilings within a building for good acoustics performance (i.e. blocking the amount of noise that can travel through them) is a critical design process. In this video, we take a look at how sound performance metrics of assemblies - STC and IIC - are tested; we look at how these values compare and what types of buildings would target different ranges; and we discuss the unique aspects of designing mass timber assemblies.
