Malioboro Street in Yogyakarta, know to locals as Jalan Malioboro has a super old story, like from hundreds of years ago when kings lived in a big palace called the Kraton. Long ago, in the 1700s and 1800s, important people from places like the Dutch and British built it as a fancy road that lines up with a volcano, the ocean, and the palace —like a magic straight line for good luck. They decorated it with pretty flowers for kings and parades, and that’s why it’s named Malioboro, which means “street full of flowers” from an old storybook word.
