Here are my notes today from the last week of trying to figure out how to make brake cables. There’s not much application to this for motorcycles. But I had a neighbor who needed a bicycle fixed, one that has an electric motor on it. I understand how cables work, but the tools and what parts are available is a foreign subject to me. So I gave it a try. It took me about five hours total over two weekends to get the work done. (It was more than just replacing a brake cabl). It also included repairing a front brake and just educating myself on how disc brakes on bicycles actually work. I had never actually touched one. Here are my notes to remind myself in the future since it’s unlikely I’ll be doing anything like this in the future. This is here for me to refer back to you when I need to again. I could definitely see some advantage from this experience if I need to make things like choke cables, or perhaps a clutch cable. I have had multiple needs to make clutch cables before. I’ve always just bought adaptable cables from other motorcycles and made do with that. None of them have ever really been right. So I’m interested to find out if I can find similar parts that might work together the way this bicycle brake cable worked. I could definitely put that skill the use on some of my bike projects, including my current Honda RS150. It badly needs a custom clutch cable.
