In 2024, Tzu Chi International School Kuala Lumpur (TCISKL) and Chiang Mai Tzu Chi School officially became sister schools, united by a shared mission to nurture global citizens grounded in humanistic values. In December 2025, members of the TCISKL Tzu Chi Youth Association travelled to northern Thailand for an exchange, bridging language barriers through the shared spirit of Tzu Chi’s humanistic culture. Team Thailand took the lead over Malaysia. But it’s just round one, there’s still another to go. The Malaysian bamboo dance was no challenge for the Thai teachers and students. A group of 34 students, teachers and Tzu Chi Mums and Dads from Tzu Chi International School Kuala Lumpur (TCISKL) visited Chiang Mai Tzu Chi School for a cultural exchange. TCISKL Acting Principal | Yong Mei Teng There’re many Tzu Chi schools, but Master Cheng Yen often describes Chiang Mai Tzu Chi School as her ideal model. That’s why we’re truly grateful for the opportunity to be here. The visit coincided with Thailand’s Loy Krathong Festival. For the Malaysian students, it was their first time crafting krathongs, adorned with fresh flowers as a symbol of solemn offering, before releasing them into the water to send blessings to nature. The activity also nurtured patience, mindfulness and focus. TCISKL Tzu Chi Youth | Marcus Xavier Barnes We don’t do this at my school. So, this is my first time doing this. TCISKL Tzu Chi Youth | Cai Xinyi I really enjoyed the process of how we could interact. Not just decorating with flowers, but how it allowed us to understand one another better. The late King Bhumibol’s birthday is observed as Thailand’s National Father’s Day. TCISKL students had the opportunity to witness these touching moments at Chiang Mai Tzu Chi School’s gratitude ceremony. TCISKL Tzu Chi Youth | See Chen Yu The ceremony was very touching. The children (carried) trays and fed their fathers porridge. We don’t have this at our school. It was my first time seeing it. TCISKL Tzu Chi Youth | Cheah Ethan I was extremely touched. I could truly feel what it means to repay our parents, and also the parents’ emotions. I think true filial piety lies in our actions. Both Tzu Chi schools share the same motto of loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity. Through heartfelt exchanges, they learned from one another’s strengths, deepening their spirit of service and humanistic values. REPORT1 By Ng Sook Jen, MY DAAI Malaysia
