The word Surat directly translates to face in Urdu, Gujarati and Hindi. Located on the banks of the river Tapti near its confluence with the Arabian Sea, it used to be a large seaport. It is now the commercial and economic centre of South Gujarat, and one of the largest urban areas of western India. It has well-established diamond and textile industry and is a major supply center for apparels and accessories. About 90% of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in Surat. It is the second largest city in Gujarat after Ahmedabad and the eighth largest city by population and ninth largest urban agglomeration in India. It is the administrative capital of the Surat district. Vadodara: also known as Baroda, is a major city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the Vadodara district and is situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, 141 km from the state capital of Gandhinagar. The railway line and National Highway 8, which connect Delhi with Mumbai, pass through Vadodara. Sursagar Lake: also known as the Chand Talao, is a large artificial lake situated in the heart of Vadodara, Gujarat, India. It is an iconic landmark of the city and is known for its scenic beauty and the majestic statue of Lord Shiva located in the middle of the lake. The Nyay Mandir, lit. 'Temple of Justice', is a court building in Vadodara in the state of Gujarat, western India. At a distance of 3 km from Vadodara Railway Station, Nyay Mandir is a historical monument in Vadodara, Gujarat. Situated near Sursagar Lake, it is one of the heritage buildings in Baroda and among the must visit Vadodara Tourist Places. It was built in 1896 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in memory of his late wife Maharani Chimnabai. Spread over an area of 4 acres, Nyay Mandir was called Chimnabai Nyay Mandir in Old time. Built with a cost of about Rs. 7, 00, 000.This was used the high court before independence and has been used for the District Court of Vadodara but recently the court complex shifted to Diwalipura. Now, the building is completely under renovation. Mandvi Gate: It is one of the oldest gate in the city. It has a good architectural structure and houses many of shops in the surroundings including public library and Nazarbaug Palace. It is mostly crowded with lots of traffic. Kirti Mandir: was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of the Gaekwad dynasty of the Marathas to perpetuate the glorious memory of his beloved ancestors. It was built in 1936 as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. It is believed that Sayajirao Maharaja built this Kirti Mandir in the memory of deceased members of the royal Gaekwad family and the edifice is dedicated to Lord Mahadev.
