This is song number nine in my story of Galarden, a fictional world that I've been creating in my head for many years. You can catch up on the ongoing story here: • Galarden Tales (My Story of Songs) ------------------------- The Escaped King slipped back into his role of ruler with ease, as though it had never been taken from him. By the second week, orders rang through the capital. By the third, the rhythm of rebuilding drowned out the echoes of the dead. Scaffolding climbed the burned towers. Storehouses opened. The people learned his face again—steady, capable, reassuring. He remembered every ritual of rule, every gesture that made a man look born to a crown. And at every turn, the Dragon Queen stood beside him. He ensured it. When he addressed the crowds, he lifted her hand before his own. When the council convened, her chair was placed at his right, where every noble would be forced to look at her before daring to question him. He asked for her counsel publicly, praised her strength loudly, deferred to her power just enough to make it seem respected rather than feared. Publicly, he played the role of a grateful fool with ease. Privately, he learned her. Studied her. He saw how she noticed everything. That she flinched at praises, but softened at gratitude. That she bristled at commands yet lingered when asked instead. At night he watched how her gaze followed the city’s skyline—toward where her dragons roosted safely beyond the walls. Power, he realized, was not something she hoarded. It was something she guarded. So he became careful. The seduction began small at first. A touch at her wrist when guiding her through a crowd. A murmur meant only for her when others were watching. He spoke often to her of rebuilding—not just the capital, but the realm. Feeding her false dreams of everlasting peace. Night by night, eventually trust replaced suspicion. She lingered longer in his halls. Began asking to spend time with him more. He shared wine, stories, carefully chosen truths—just enough vulnerability for it to feel real to her. He let her see the foolish man beneath the crown, the escaped king who had lost everything, the king who owed her his throne. Eventually, his seduction stopped hiding behind accident or pretense. His touches grew deliberate—hands lingering at her waist, fingers tightening around hers. His gaze held hers openly then, asking her permission without words, waiting for her refusal he already knew would not come. The night he made his move was chosen with care, and when he stepped closer, when his voice softened and his lips claimed hers, and her arms wrapped around him, the Escaped King smiled—already victorious, already calculating how long he would let her believe she was choosing him… before he asked her to burn for him instead. ------------------------- [Fun fact:] I've mentioned before that I’m a inspiration-driven writer—a sporadic scribe, if you will. When I hit a roadblock in my main story, I dive into my inspiration list to keep the words—and the creativity—flowing. This often leads me down completely unexpected paths: stories that don’t always fit into my world, or that are meant to happen much later in the timeline. This is one of those times when I had already had already written the song and it was supposed to happen much later in the timeline, but the juices were flowing so I wrote it and released it. If you've listened to it before, you'll notice it shares some of the same lyrics as this one I just released. (You can find the song here: • Dangerous Love - Official Lyric Video ) But when it came time to add it into my timeline, I listened again and something felt off. I realized I’d been focusing heavily on the Escaped King’s side of the story, and the original lyrics no longer quite fit the narrative I wanted to build. So I rewrote them from the King’s POV—and ended up creating an entirely new song. I wanted it to focus solely on the King. But don't worry guys, the Dragon Queen will get her voice and songs eventually and you'll understand! (At least, this writer hopes you do!) ------------------------- #fantasysong #fantasymusic #fantasysongs #fantasylovers #epicsong #booktok #booktube #storysongs #music #newmusicalert #spotifyplaylist #fantasyplaylist #bookmusic #bookplaylist #newmusic #dnd #dungeonsanddragons #necromancer #dragons
