After a decade long hiatus, Powdr Corp decided that it was time to invest in Killington again. The centerpiece of The Season of More was a revitalization of Snowdon Mountain. Despite having some nice terrain, it was essentially a pass-through mountain between Killington Peak and Ramshead. While other parts of the mountain were served by high speed quads and gondolas, Snowdon had a pair of slow fixed grips that stopped frequently. There were also many dangerous trail intersections that disrupted the top to bottom run. To transform Snowdon into a mountain area that people seek out to lap, the following improvements were made: Two tunnels were installed to eliminate the trail intersections, and this Leitner-Poma bubble-6 replaced the Snowdon (Slowdon) Quad. This lift is 4428 feet long by 1114 vertical. It is the highest capacity lift on the mountain and can move 3000 people an hour. With a design speed of 1000 feet per minute a ride takes just 4.5 minutes. The high capacity and comfortable, quick ride give skiers another option instead of the K1 Gondola or Ramshead Express and as a result, wait times at both lifts are much shorter. While this is the first bubble chair at Killington, I'm sure it won't be the only one for long. Superstar and Ramshead are priorities to upgrade and while they will likely be just like this lift, I can only hope that they consider getting the first bubble-8 in the east too.
