Readings in English and Arabic from the Sunni Sufi classics of Islam of the past and present (Muhammad b. Ja`far al-Kattani, Abu Sa`d al-Kharkushi, Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri, Sayyid Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki and Abd al-Hakim Sharaf al-Qadiri) on the insights of the Awliya concerning the heart-openings and spiritual lights of the Isra' and Mi`raj of the Holy Prophet--upon him and his Family and Companions blessings and peace. Delivered with permission from Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani by Shaykh Gibril Fouad Haddad on the last Jumu`a of the sacred month of Rajab 1446 corresponding to Friday January 24, 2025. ============ From the first third of the talk: Opening of Muhammad b. Ja`far al-Kattani's Nayl al-muna wa-ghayat al-sul bi-dhikri mi`raji al-Nabiyyi al-mukhtar al-Rasul (The obtainment of wishes and the goal of the quest through the mention of the heavenly Ascent of the chosen Prophet, the Messenger). Kattani indicates that {of our signs} in the first verse of the Sura of Isra', {so that We would show him of Our signs} (17:1), signifies the same as {he certainly saw of the signs of his nurturing Lord the greatest} in the Sura of al-Najm (53:18). So the verse of al-Isra' has to be read in light of the verse of al-Najm, and the greatest sign shown to the Prophet Muhammad -- upon him blessings and peace -- is his vision of Allah in a wakeful state "with the eyes of his head per Ibn `Abbas and most of the Companions and the scholars” (al-Nawawī, Fatāwā). The preferred status of the Prophet over the angels is the consensus of the Umma which only some Mu`tazilas breached including al-Zamakhshari in his commentary on the Qur'an. There is no possible merit in creation that can be added or is missing from the merits lavished on the Prophet -- upon him blessings and peace. He heard the divine address "without voice and letter" contrary to the anthropomorphists who attribute them to Allah, and they also attribute direction to Him contrary to Ahl al-Sunna. Likewise Sunnis declare transcendence for the Divine essence whereas anthropomorphists assign limits. Salawat al-Mi`raj al-Kattaniyya: "O Allah! Perfume our gatherings by his mention and the pure scent of his source and wellspring and grant us the special favor of fervently kissing his noble palm and kissing his holy face, and greet, bless and bestow felicity and blessing through him and on him, with a blessing that bring us nearer to him and intensely near unto him, with a blessing and divine favor by which we will be increased in love and longing and by which You will make us earn through his august person a connection of belonging and passionate yearning, and on his Companions and Family, and everyone that has any copnnection to his coat-tails" (Kattani, Mi`raj). Dream of kissing Mawlana Shaykh Hisham's palm after he left this world. The Companions applied the palms of their own hands to their own faces after supplication and after touching the relics of the Holy Prophet. Some people dare to object to this sunna. The greatest inimitability of the Qur'an is its linguistic miracle. Love of the Prophet's Family and Companions makes one part of them in the way of the Prophetic Hadith "Salman is part of us, the people of the House." The battle-cry of the Muslims at the battle of Yamama against Musaylima the Arch-Liar was "YA MUHAMMADAH" (O my Muhammad)!
