Reading from the First Book of Kings (8,1-7.9-13): In those days, Solomon summoned to the palace in Jerusalem the elders of Israel, the heads of the tribes, and the heads of the families of the Israelites, to bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant from the City of David (that is, Zion). All the Israelites gathered around King Solomon in the month of Ethanim (the seventh month), during the Feast of Tabernacles. When the elders of Israel arrived, the priests carried the Ark of the Lord, and the Levite priests brought the Tent of Meeting along with the sacred vessels that were in the Tent. King Solomon, together with the entire assembly of Israel gathered before the Ark, sacrificed an innumerable number of sheep and oxen. The priests placed the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant in its place, in the inner sanctuary of the temple, under the wings of the cherubim, for the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the Ark, covering the Ark and the poles above it. In the Ark were only the two stone tablets that Moses had placed there on Mount Horeb when the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after leaving Egypt, and they are still kept there today. When the priests came out of the Holy of Holies, a cloud filled the temple, so that the priests could no longer perform the service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple. Then Solomon said: “The Lord has chosen to dwell in darkness; and I have built you a palace, a place for you to live forever.” The Word of the Lord Psalm Ps 131, 6-7.8-10 R/. Arise, O Lord, come to your resting place We heard that it was in Ephrathah, we found it in the Grove of Jaar: let us enter his dwelling, let us bow down at the footstool of his feet. R/. Arise, O Lord, come to your resting place, come with the ark of your power: may your priests be clothed with righteousness, may your faithful shout for joy. For the sake of your servant David, do not refuse the face of your Anointed. R/. Second Reading Gospel A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark (6,53-56): At that time, when Jesus and his disciples finished crossing over, they landed at Gennesaret and came ashore. As soon as they got out of the boat, some recognized him and went throughout the whole district; whenever people learned where Jesus was, they brought the sick on stretchers to him. In every village, town, or hamlet where he arrived, they placed the sick in the marketplace and begged him to let them touch at least the edge of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.
