The second of two videos showing what it's like to use a fly rod for sailfish--a a unbelievably beautiful voracious predator (read "sick eats") and the acrobatics you'd expect the world's fastest fish. I'm saying right now this shows a fish dying--because of us. I played a part in it and that sucks. We adapted to minimize the chance of it happening again and I tried to focus on that aspect here. Nobody goes out with a fly rod to intentionally kill fish they aren't plan on eating (or at least nobody who isn't an a-hole), but there's no question that you stress every fish you hook. I have no intention of not fishing, so the best I can do is try to be as gentle with them as I can be. That requires admitting that there's room for improvement , committing to improving, learning how to do it better, and then implementing that. My feeling is it's important to show myself doing to both set and example and encourage others--these are finite resources and living creatures and as anglers and sportspeople we should be leading the charge of protecting them and treating them with respect, even if what we are doing is inherently harmful (I know it's a contradiction, I've made my peace with that). Anyway, if you don't want to see a fish die, skip this video entirely or skip from about 6:41 to 14:15 (when we start talking about how to keep it from happening again) or skip from 6:41 to 15:11 if you just want to see fish that make it. As always, please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to comment (you can be critical, but if you are uncivil or impolite I'll ignore it). And thanks as always for watching.
