250826 Department of Computer Science & Engineering Evaluation of the Mechanical Properties of 3D-printed PLA in two printing orientations Additive manufacturing is an alternative to traditional manufacturing, applicable to a range of fields from structural and civil engineering to dental and precision manufacturing. Recent studies show that the mechanical properties of 3D printed parts depend on printing parameters, color and brand of the feedstock and brand of the printer. This study thus aims to expand on and evaluate previous findings by comparing the mechanical properties of PLA samples with multiple printing orientations (vertical and horizontal), multiple sizes, and multiple printer types. Methods used include ASTM tensile testing and analysis of fractured surface morphology using the Keyence optical microscope. The results will be compared to the literature and discussed.
