The MDC is aiming to topple veteran President Robert Mugabe in next month's joint presidential and parliamentary elections. The event coincided with Mugabe's official birthday celebrations being held in the town of Beitbridge. Mugabe, who turned 84, on Thursday, is seeking a sixth term as president. Addressing the estimated 20-thousand party supporters who thronged the Sakubva stadium, Morgan Tsvangirai leader of the MDC, said that hunger would be the talking point of the ballot set for March the 29th. Tsvangirai stirred the crowd with a series of questions; "Are you hungry? Are you hungry for justice? Are you hungry for change?", each of which was met by the crowd with a resounding "Yes". Tsvangirai said that the harsh economic meltdown playing out in Zimbabwe would make it impossible for Mugabe to win. Tsvangirai is among candidates taking on Mugabe in a four horse race for the presidency which includes former finance Minister and Zanu PF senior official Simba Makoni running as an independent. A bid to close ranks and forge an opposition alliance to confront Mugabe at the ballot flopped three weeks ago over the allocation of constituents.
