Butterfly Conservation and its Challenges || Mr. Lokanath V (Senior Entomologist)

Having completed his Bsc in Agriculture from GKVK in Bangalore, Mr Lokanath saw that there were many fields in Agriculture. But being interested in working with insects, he decided to choose the Entomology branch. He then completed his MSc in Agriculture in Entomology, from the UAS in Dharwad. Since the past 7 years , he has been working at the Bannerghatta Butterfly park (or the BBP) which is part of the Bengaluru Bannerghatta Biological park (or the BBBP). He is presently working as the Senior Entomologist there. The Butterfly park is an entomological unit, where some of the major activities include breeding and conservation of butterflies, in which Mr. Lokanath is involved. He believes that (in his words) - 'Butterflies are a flag ship of the insect world' and so working with butterflies feels like a lot to him. Mr. Lokanath has also played a major role in establishing Butterfly parks in other parts of the country, by working closely with Indian Forest Department and other central govt. bodies. He has also visited Uttarpradesh, Madhya Pradesh. Chattisgarh and other places, for technical guidelines to develop a Butterfly park in each of their divisions..
