The music for “Hey There” was composed by Jerry Ross, with lyrics by Richard Adler. The show tune is from the 1954 Broadway musical “The Pajama Game,” winner of the 1955 Tony Award for Best Musical and the 2006 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. John Raitt introduced the song in the original Broadway production, and also starred with Doris Day in the 1957 film adaptation. In 1954, Rosemary Clooney’s recording of “Hey There” hit the top at No. 1 on the US Billboard chart. Including all 1954 recorded versions, the song also reached No. 1 on the US Cash Box chart. Numerous performers have recorded other versions of “Hey There,” including Sammy Davis Jr., Johnnie Ray, Bing Crosby, Julie London, Harry Connick Jr., and John Raitt with the 1954 original Broadway cast recording and the 1957 film soundtrack. This improvisation of the hit song “Hey There” is by pianist Charles Manning.
