Obaidur Rahman was the third Secretary General and former Minister of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He was elected as a member of the Pakistan National Assembly in the 1970 elections. He played a significant role in the non-cooperation movement and liberation war of 1971. He was a Member of Parliament of the First, Second, Seventh and Eighth National Assembly of Bangladesh. Birth and early life K.M. Obaidur Rahman was born on May 5, 1940 in Laskardia village of Nagarkanda in Faridpur, East Bengal, British India. His father khandkar md. Atiqur Rahman and mother Rabeya Begum. After studying at Rajendra University College, Faridpur Government, he passed his MA from Dhaka University in 1964. Political and career K.M. Obaidur Rahman was an activist of the 1952 language movement. He was elected VP of Faridpur Government Rajendra University College. During his student days at Dhaka University, he once served as general secretary of the Students' League and twice as president. In 1962-1963, Dhaka University was elected general secretary of the Central Students' Parliament (Daksu). In 1962, he led the anti-Ayub student movement. In 1963, he was elected president of the East Pakistan Students League. He supported the Six-Point Movement of the Awami League in 1966 and participated in the uprising of the 990s. He joined the Bangladesh Awami League in 1964 and served as social welfare secretary in 1966-1971. He was elected as a member of the Pakistan National Assembly in the 1970 elections. He played a significant role in the non-cooperation movement and the liberation war. As convenor of faridpur district coordination and prevention committee, he organized youth in Faridpur in the non-cooperation movement. After the liberation war of Bangladesh, he moved to India and during the liberation war he was a political motivator at purulia freedom fighters training camp in India and later in charge of running the temporary office of the Awami League in Kolkata. He was then the acting general secretary of the Awami League. He was elected as a member of Parliament from the then Faridpur-7 seat as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the first election of independent Bangladesh in 1973. In 1973-1975, he was the Minister of State for The Government of Bangladesh. After the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he joined the government of Khondkar Mushtaq Ahmed. [6] He was accused in the 1975 jail murder case. He was acquitted in the 2004 jail murder case. He joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1978 and was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1979. At that time, he served first as minister of fisheries and animal husbandry and later as minister of aviation and tourism. He was secretary general of bnp in 1986-1988. It was then formed by the Janata Dal with wheels as an election symbol under pressure from Ershad's military government. The party was last defeated by participating in the 1991 elections. After the Khaleda government came to power, khaleda rejoined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. In the June 1996 and 2001 elections, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from BNP to Faridpur-II seat. [4][5][10] Amrit was a member of the BNP's Standing Committee. He was a 10-year-old convert at different times from 1964 to 2001. Personal life K.M. Obaidur Rahman married Professor Shaheda Obaid. One of their daughters is Shama Obaid. He contested the 2008 parliamentary elections as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party from Faridpur-2. Shama is the organizing secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Death K.M. Obaidur Rahman died on March 21, 2007 at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was buried in Nagarkanda Upazila Laskardia village of Faridpur district. Thanks For Watching.
