Episode 1242 Rita (Barbara Knox) has a word with Alan (Alan Browning) about his heavy drinking the night before. Ena (Violet Carson) tells Ernie (Stephen Hancock) that Albert (Jack Howarth) has lost the centre’s Christmas decorations. Albert denies it and threatens to resign when Ernie insists he locate them. Stan (Bernard Youens) tells Alf (Bryan Mosley) he’s giving up window cleaning because he pays too much tax. Elsie (Pat Phoenix), Bet (Julie Goodyear) and Norma (Diana Davies) plan a night out at The Capricorn with Ken (Bill Roache). Ernie breaks the news to Ena that Albert has resigned but she tells him to convince Albert to change his mind as she cannot manage the centre alone over Christmas. Alan isn’t happy to see Elsie at The Capricorn as he thinks she has come to keep tabs on him. Lucille (Jennifer Moss) suggests a 1940s-themed Christmas show at the Rovers. Bet advises Norma not to throw herself at Ken. Albert withdraws his resignation. Hilda (Jean Alexander) discovers what Stan is planning when Billy (Kenneth Farrington) sends Lucille round with a tall tale about somebody being interested in buying Stan’s round.
