A great day for the operation, a momentous occasion for Ganymede, but unfortunately a poor day for aerial video footage with mist rolling-in just as they were preparing for the move rendering it unsafe to carry on flying. And by the time there was a break in the mist, the job was done - a credit in itself to the team, but sorry I missed the real action this time round... hopefully tomorrow! (There are other videos out there showing the actual drag if you want to see it, please come back though!) So, following the construction of the ramp yesterday by the amazing spider digger and her amazing operator, Amy, the digger continued to do some digging-out around Ganymede this morning before the boat was hooked up to the winching gear. Then, as the mist descended, at some point over the next couple of hours, Ganymede was successfully winched up to the dam on the downside of the breach where I imagine the decision as to whether she can be re-floated will be taken. For Pacemaker (the boat recovered upstream a few days ago) it was a relatively simple task once she was afloat to move her the few hundred meters to Whitchurch Marina where she could be lifted from the water for inspection using the marina's crane, but there's no such facility on this side of the breach, so I think they might end up having to bring a crane to Grindley Brook about a mile down the canal if they need to lift Ganymede, assuming she can be floated that far. It looks like the next job will be to attempt to recover Sefton, as they're already clearing mud from around her. I suspect that despite today's obvious success, recovering Sefton will be the biggest challenge so far. And please, before anyone else asks in the comments - it wasn't my drone involved in the collision between two drones! ------------------------ I'd like to make a quick comment about my use of background music, as it seems that I receive a lot of flack in the comments for either not including any, including some, or people not liking it.
