In this video we discuss more anti-resorptive drugs used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women . The first one is Calcitonin- Salmon which is a peptide hormone isolated from Salmon . It is more active than human Calcitonin and it decreases the osteoclast activity and thus reducing the bone resorption . We discuss how it works , formulas available and how to be taken . Also we mention the side effects particularly those on the nostrils . Then we mention the selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators , The approved SERM for treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis is Raloxifene ( Evista ) . It decreases risk of breast cancer as well as Uterine cancer , we disuss the contraindications and side effects which are similar to those caused by Estrogens . Finally we discussed Duavee which is formulated from both conjugated estrogens and Bazedoxifene . This drug is approved for the treatment of hot flashes and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis . It can be used instead of progestins as it exerts antagonistic effect on uterine lining and we compared in a table the main differences between Raloxifene and Bazedoxifene
