This is not tied to The Godfather book or film officially, but a song by a fan for all fans! The lyrics are the greatest hint, but the Ral Donner fan club confirms how he wrote this after being impressed by the opening scene of the titular 1972 movie. The undertaker Bonasera asks The Godfather, Don Vito Corleone, for a favor. This, he gets to do as his daughter is the godchild of the Don's wife. The family is celebrating the wedding of the Don's own daughter as Bonasera tells Vito that her boyfriend and another friend attempted to rape and beat her, disfiguring and disabling her in the process. After the justice system fails the Italian-American immigrant family, they turn to the mafia for justice. James L. Mack arranged and conducted this Chicago Fire production. A majority-English song, the final verse is sung in not-quite-proper-Italian. And while the mandolin is sparse, it really does set the mood with it's tremolo. The strings at first seem to almost want to hint at Nino Rota's The Godfather Waltz; The main title of the film. Right before the song ends, they do very briefly play that melody before resolving on the fadeout. Briefly enough to not sleep with the copyright fishes ;) Later resurfacing on the LPs An Evening With Ral Donner in 1982 and The Loneliness Of A Star in 1986, this original composition was a 1974 single with The Wedding Song (From The Columbia Picture "Lords Of The Flatbush") as it's B-side.
