Over the past several decades, tufted puffin populations in Oregon have declined by roughly 90 percent, reflecting broader changes in ocean conditions and marine ecosystems. Through conversations with researchers, conservationists, and community partners, this short documentary looks at why puffins are struggling, what their decline tells us about the health of the ocean, and how people are coming together to respond. From long-term monitoring at Cannon Beach to Oregon’s first Tufted Puffin Conservation Action Plan, the film follows both the science and the collaboration behind ongoing conservation efforts. The story also captures a new approach to seabird research, including the first permitted drone flights at Haystack Rock in Pacific City, offering a glimpse into how emerging tools may help monitor habitat and reduce disturbance while expanding what we can learn.
