In March 1942, Hitler issued Directive No. 40, ordering the construction of the Atlantic Wall, which would eventually stretch from northern Norway to the southern border of France. But why was it built? What did it look like? Who built it? Where can you visit any ruins? How much concrete did it use, and did it ultimately contribute to Hitler’s defeat? We’ll also look at the role played by Nazi Geologists in building the wall, demonstrating that it took lots of different people to make it a reality. Some great clips in here from a recent visit to the Pas-de-Calais region of Northern France, albeit in pouring rain and gale-force winds!
