Although the exact dates of composition are uncertain, this sonata is believed to have been begun in 1804 and completed in 1806. As a work from Beethoven’s middle period, the title “Appassionata”was not given by the composer himself but was later added by the publisher Cranz, and the sonata was dedicated to Count Brunsvik.True to its nickname, the work conveys a tempest of intense and passionate energy. 00:03 I.
