Target Notes VOLUME 1 In this episode we target the Bass notes that will then determine the chord The bass plays the FLAT7 then the 3rd, Major or minor. Move in a descending fashion. Constantly vary your combinations both from the steps, and from the hands. Look at the harmony of each chord and what scale would fit best. Gradually increase tempo SING THE NOTES! The musical savant has graced Melbourne’s jazz clubs for more than two decades appearing in various trios, duos, curating his own shows and as a founding member of Electro Hip-hop outfit, the Melodics. In 2017, Blanes won the prestigious PBS Young Elder of Jazz and received multiple Green Room nominations for his MIJF comedy show Hue Blanes and the Moon. The last 7 years has seen him based in the Netherlands, however Hue is back in Melbourne, to wow audiences and call this four seasons city home. Hue grew up in the small Victorian town of Healesville, where he began his musical life playing local fetes, concerts and festivals. He received a scholarship to study at the Victorian College of The Arts Secondary School (VCASS), and graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Music Performance and the prestigious Billy Hyde Music Prize for outstanding achievement. Hue’s teachers have included some of Australia’s finest musicians – Bob and Steven Sedergreen, Andrea Keller, Tim Stevens, Tony Gould, and most recently with Fred Hersch, Eldar Djangirov, Aaron Goldberg and Jason Moran. Vocally Hue has learned from the masters, Oliver Mann Opera Australia, Mark Murphy (USA), and his teacher of 15 years, late Ukrainian Soprano Mira Khmelnytskaya. Hue Blanes is ‘out of the box’. He has been involved in a myriad of genres and musical projects, all with the ultimate purpose of improving his playing and understanding of music. He writes jazz, classical music, tragicomic songs about love, dying and world conspiracies. This eclectic performer also plays jazz standards, classical scores and spiritual hymns he finds at second-hand bookstores. An incredible live artist, Hue has played at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Adelaide Cabaret festival. The winner of the 2018 Lucerne School of Music International Jazz Piano competition (Switzerland)
