Dive 8 of the trip — and our first time exploring both Marty’s Wall and the Wreck of Doc Paulson — marks a new chapter in our Cayman 2025 series. We begin at Marty’s Wall with a steady descent to 100 feet, where the reef suddenly gives way to open blue. Indigo hamlets move along the edge, lionfish hover in the current, and the coral topography shifts dramatically as the wall drops into the deep. A swim-through beginning around 70 feet carries us down to 100 before we gradually arc back upward toward shallower water. On our way toward the wreck, we’re met with an unforgettable eagle ray encounter — gliding effortlessly past in one of the most graceful moments of the dive. From there, we arrive at the shallow Wreck of Doc Paulson and spend over 30 minutes exploring its structure. Sunlight pours across the deck as bubbles rise through the frame, creating incredible natural lighting throughout the dive. The wreck is alive with both soft and hard coral growth, vibrant sponges, and schools of reef fish weaving through its beams and openings. Highlights from the wreck include: • Following a barracuda as it moves through and out of the boat • A lobster tucked deep within the structure • Gray angelfish drifting between windows and passageways • A rare black grouper leading us through sections of the interior • A stunning “aquarium view” through one of the wreck’s windows • A cinematic moment near the machinery where focus shifts slowly between structure and fish As the dive winds down, we follow a horse-eyed jack carrying something weathered in its mouth — a fish that looked like it had stories to tell. In the shallows, large schools of blue runner fish swirl around us as I capture a quick selfie that would later become the Gross Scuba profile image. The dive ends with a beautiful sequence: surfacing beneath perfect light, watching the boat above from underwater, and transitioning to a stunning drone shot captured by fellow diver Devon Gerber. This dive brought together depth, structure, wildlife, lighting, and exploration — all in one continuous journey. It would quietly become my favorite dive of the entire trip. 🎥 Dive details • Locations: Marty’s Wall + Wreck of Doc Paulson • Dive: #8 (Cayman 2025 | Day 4 – Dive 1) • Depth: Down to 100 ft • Marine life highlights: Eagle ray, barracuda, rare black grouper, gray angelfish, blue runners • Extended wreck exploration (30+ minutes) • Filmed entirely on GoPro, with aerial drone footage at the end This video is part of our Cayman 2025 dive series.
