The idea of an "unknown region" (as Walt Whitman described it) or a place where an individual's identity or stream of consciousness continues to exist into an immortal realm has intrigued humans since cave drawings over 65,000 years ago. Today, supernatural beings (often portrayed as "medieval" angelic or demonic creatures) permeate film, literature, and theology. IN PARADISUM centers on the common denominator of contentment, innocence, and eternal peace, reflecting on the philosophical and universal tenets of "Paradise" instead of a specific liturgy or philosophy. The intent is for each listener to "journey through" their own vision/beliefs about the existence of "paradise," and through that reflection, find deeper significance for daily living, faith, and hope. [The form of IN PARADISUM does not follow a secular or pre-determined liturgical order.
