Backpacking the Gallatin Crest, Sky Rim, and Specimen Creek Trails in Yellowstone National Park

A five-day trip that took place in August 2025. Bob, Hugh, and I started at the Portal Creek Trailhead in the Southern Gallatin Range. We spent five days backpacking a portion of the Gallatin Crest Trail, the Sky Rim Trail, and the Specimen Creek Trail in Yellowstone National Park. We had near perfect weather and visibility the entire way. Water is scarce to nonexistent on the ridgelines in August, so one of the challenges was carrying enough water to stay hydrated at the upper elevations. Bob cached us a stash of water just before we reached Yellowstone and it carried us through to Shelf Lake. Patrick and Cody (if you watched the intro) sat this one out but they will be featured in future videos thru Hayden Valley and along Boundary Creek.
