Lavenderstar and Beestar being particular advocates for them. Skyclan settled inbetween Windclan and Shadowclans territory’s. Ducklingstar got everything he wanted, everything he worked so hard for. But he was still plagued by the memory of that day at the moonpool. The feeling of touching his destiny just to be drowned in it by a cat he once loved. After waking from a particularly bad nightmare, Ducklingstar leaves the tunnel Skyclan claimed as their camp, and walked off into the night. As he came upon the shadowclan border it began to rain, and then thunder, then he heard the sickening yowls of frightened cats. Without thinking, he bounded through shadowclan territory, determined to help them get to safety. He hears a familiar voice and follows it until he comes upon a horrific sight. Sparkstar had fallen victim to a tree struck by lightning crushing his back legs. Ducklingstar pauses. Every emotion every memory bubbling to the surface. His rage, his hurt, a thirst for vengeance even. Almost laughable how karma served him right. He should let Sparkstar die in the cold rain. A pitiful worthless death for what he had done. But then he’s hit with a sense of Deja vu. This mindset this hatred, where had he heard it before? Everywhere. He heard it when Sootstar split Dreamclan. He heard it when Spiderstar took everything away. He heard it when Swiftstar set the forest on fire and forced Thunderstripe and Beestar apart. He felt it when he went after Frost. Suddenly the feeling becomes heavy, and it burns like flames licking at his rain drenched pelt. He catches another memory, like tasting a faint scent on the wind just there for a moment. He remembers being in love. He remembers the rise and fall of these tyrants but he was in love and it didn’t matter. A new determination washes over him and he reacts. Summoning all his strength to push the fallen tree off of Sparkstar. Dragging him to his paws and willing him to survive. The two of them wordlessly trek on through the storm. Unable to navigate in the rain. Narrowly avoiding lightning strikes. Ducklingstar hoists the injured shadowclan cat onto his back and he runs. His muscles burning and his bones aching, his fur uncomfortably plastered to his body, he runs for both of their lives. They finally come across an old empty tree hollow. likely the den of a badger that had long moved on from here. Huddling together for warmth, they talk quietly. They talk as if they had rewinded a season. Not quite the same. not quite ignoring all that had transpired, but accepting it. Coming to terms with it. Communicating anyways. In the morning when the storm had passed on, they’re awoken by familiar voices. Slipclaw and Frogripple had found them! Neither seemed to believe their eyes seeing Ducklingstar and Sparkstar nestled together in the hollow. Ducklingstar meets his deputy’s eyes and suddenly it all clicks. The final piece of the puzzle. His reasons for creating Lostclan were self serving. He needed redemption after all his failures. Starclan was unjust for only reforming four of the clans when they knew Skyclan still belonged despite being lost for longer than the rest. Ducklingstar renewed honour to starclan by presenting the fifth clan. It was and always would be his pride and his legacy. But in this moment he knows it’s not his destiny. He trained Slipclaw well, and now he wants to go home. Ducklingtuft gives up his lives of a leader, presenting Slipstar as the destined leader of Skyclan. Slipstar isn’t confident but Ducklingtuft knows he has the support he needs to become a leader who cares and commands with his heart in a strength that most clan cats lack. Finally, after many moons estranged, Ducklingtuft goes home. He goes back to his mates. He lets go of his ambition and he watches the clans flourish. He spends the rest of his life training a new generation of Shadowclan warriors, always keeping an eye out for Skyclan. Trusting that Sparkstar will have Slipstar’s back when he needs it, and occasionally accompanying Frogripple to visit his old friend. He gets his happy ending.
