Episode 812 The police continue their enquiries by interviewing the residents. As suspicion grows, Ken (Bill Roache) loses his temper with the locals over their whispers and innuendo. Det. Inspector Castle (Hugh Cross) questions Gary (Callen Angelo) and Joe (Shane Rimmer), who contradict one another’s stories. Dave (Reginald Marsh) frets about what Elsie (Pat Phoenix) may have told the authorities. Ena (Violet Carson) advises Elsie to tell the truth. Elsie uses Val (Anne Reid) as her alibi. Val agrees to this but is hesitant. Elsie later sees Len (Peter Adamson) and tells him that she knows he was at Steve’s (Paul Maxwell) flat that night. Len tells her that, because of his reputation for fighting, he would be in trouble if the police questioned him, and urges her to stay out of it. When Castle visits Val, she gives him her false alibi for Elsie, but Ken tells him Val is lying. Castle demands to know why Val is protecting Elsie. The police quiz Ena and Annie (Doris Speed) about Elsie’s relationship with Len and Dave. Gary and Joe claim they were watching an illegal blue film when Steve died. Finally, Castle pays a visit to Len at the yard.
