First Impressions of Bucharest: From Soviet-Era Streets to a Hidden Gem Airbnb | Romania

In my latest vlog, I shared the experience of arriving in Bucharest, Romania, and the journey from the airport to our Airbnb. The airport itself was quite modern, but as we made our way into the city, it was clear we were about to experience a mix of old and new. The streets of Bucharest were busy, with locals and tourists weaving through traffic, but what stood out the most was the architecture. The Soviet-era buildings were unlike anything I had seen before—massive, imposing structures with a somewhat cold and industrial feel. Walking around them, I couldn’t shake the sense of something unfamiliar and a little eerie, which made the city feel like a fascinating puzzle I was trying to piece together. When we finally arrived at our Airbnb, the first impression wasn’t great. The building itself looked pretty dodgy from the outside, and I started to wonder if I had made a mistake. However, after checking in and stepping inside, my doubts were completely erased. The apartment was stylish and modern, with sleek interiors and all the comforts we needed. It was surprisingly spacious, and the location couldn’t have been better—right in the center of everything, within walking distance to major attractions, restaurants, and cafes. It ended up being the perfect home base for our time in Bucharest. As I explored the area around the Airbnb, I was struck by how dynamic the city felt. The contrast between the older, Soviet-inspired buildings and the newer, more modern structures was fascinating. It felt like Bucharest was at the crossroads of history, with layers of stories waiting to be discovered around every corner. I can’t wait to share more of the city and what it has to offer in future vlogs!
