Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 Hyundai Kona, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver. Before we do that though, let's take a minute and check this one out, make sure it's gonna work for you. So for those of you that are wanting to use an accessory, like a bike rack or cargo carrier, or even pull a small trailer around, you're gonna need an attachment point to be able to do that. And having the trailer hitch back here, it's gonna allow you to get that job done. I do like how the hitch looks on the back of the Kona. For the most part, it's completely hidden. You know, you're just gonna be able to see the receiver tube opening there. So don't look out of place by any means, at least in my opinion. And to compare this one to the other hitch that's available, it's made by Draw-Tite, they're both pretty similar, but after installing both of 'em, I did notice a couple of differences and I think the Curt has a slight advantage, in terms of ease of fitment. This one just seemed to go up in place a little bit better. And the Curt also is gonna give us a little bit better bumper clearance, which we'll talk about in a moment. But if you're using a folding accessory, chances are a lot better you'll actually be able to store it upright, without having to worry about it hit your back bumper. This particular hitch, it's gonna work with all the different sub-models of the Kona, with a few exceptions. And those would be the electric vehicle, the N Line and N Series. If you happen to have any of those, Curt makes a hitch for 'em, that's designed specifically for those, and looks extremely similar to this, so you can always check that out. But with that said, the hitch is going to have a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a super common size. And so a lot of different accessories are gonna work with it. It is going to use the 5/8ths pin and clip, which is standard and it doesn't come with one, but if you need one, not a big deal, get it here at etrailer. A lot of times too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll have one. So, something to look out for there. And the safety chain openings are a loop style, easy to get to and you should be able to use pretty much any size hook that your trailer might have on it. As far as the weight capacities go, that's just gonna have a 200 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. That's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch, so that's good for those one to three, maybe even four bike racks just to give an example. And for the maximum gross trailer weight rating, that's gonna be 2000 pounds, or the amount of weight pulling on the hitch, that will be the weight of your trailer, plus anything that you might have in on it. Now I do always like to recommend, it's never a bad idea just to grab your Hyundai's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your Kona can handle that much weight safely. We'll grab a couple measurements now and these will help us figure out what type of accessories work best. If you go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, it's gonna be about 14 and a half inches. Pretty good ground clearance. So, if you have something that has a straight shank, driving good shape, if your accessory has a a shank with a rise in it, even better, gives you more ground clearance back here. And if you plan on doing a little bit of towing, shanks are pretty good, you can use a ball mount that has a slight rise in the shank, an inch or two, would probably work well in most scenarios. And as far as that bumper clearance goes, like we talked about earlier, that's gonna be about four and a half inches. And you can use that if needed to help figure out exactly if you can fold those accessories up and not have to worry about them hitting the back of your Kona. That's really all there is to it. You know it's a good fit for the Kona. This would probably be my pick if I had to choose a hitch and I say that really just 'cause of those small differences. You know, the fitment being a little bit better and the little bit better clearance. It could just potentially be a little more versatile, right As far as the installation goes, really not too bad at all. You do let the exhaust come down a little bit, not a big dea
