This year didn’t go according to plan. After ultrasounding and sorting the herd, we made the call to winter more than half our sheep in Nevada due to drought conditions and limited feed on our desert range. But getting them there wasn’t simple. It took two separate trips, long days on the road, and a lot of coordination to haul the first bunch from the ranch — and then return to the desert to pull out all of our twin-bearing ewes to protect the remaining feed. When the range can’t carry them, we truck them.
