Created as a place to gather across generations, the home supports a lifestyle centered around nature, outdoor recreation, and shared family moments—whether skiing in winter, hiking in summer, or simply enjoying the peaceful views of the lake. The property includes the main residence, which acts as the heart of the retreat, along with a separate gym building dedicated to wellness and recreation. Together, these structures create a balanced environment where relaxation, activity, and connection to nature coexist. From the beginning, the clients envisioned a generational home—one where extended family members could stay comfortably for long periods while remaining deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. As a result, the design emphasizes openness, warmth, and a strong relationship with the lake views. Inside the house, the interior design follows a modern yet playful approach. Clean architectural lines, minimalist lighting, and warm wood textures establish a calm atmosphere, while subtle accents of color reflect the tones of the natural lakeside environment. One of the most striking elements of the interior is the curved cedar ceiling, which appears almost monolithic. Custom trimless detailing allows lighting fixtures and ventilation systems to be seamlessly integrated into the surface, maintaining the purity of the architectural form. At the center of the home lies the kitchen—strategically positioned to overlook the lake. This was one of the homeowner’s key requests. Designed to accommodate multiple cooks at once, the kitchen features a generous island and expansive work surfaces, making it ideal for social cooking and family gatherings. The homeowners also requested a pizza oven as a central element of the space. Because of its size, integrating it into the design required careful planning. The design team ultimately positioned it near the dining area, allowing the cooking experience to become part of the social atmosphere. In the absence of a traditional fireplace—avoided to maintain passive house efficiency—the pizza oven becomes the focal gathering point of the living space while featuring a thermally sealed door to support energy performance. The separate gym building encourages physical activity and shared experiences. Large sliding glass doors open the space toward expansive outdoor views, allowing natural light to fill the interior while maintaining a strong visual connection with the surrounding landscape. Sustainability plays a central role in the design and construction of Eugenia Lake House. The building incorporates passive house technologies that significantly reduce energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment. Environmentally responsible materials and systems were carefully selected throughout the project. These include low-flow plumbing fixtures, Energy Star appliances, and zero- or low-VOC paints to support healthier indoor air quality. The project team collaborated with specialists in high-efficiency building systems, geothermal energy installation, solar panel integration, and passive design strategies. Locally sourced limestone was also used in the construction, supporting regional craftsmanship while reducing environmental impact. Ultimately, Eugenia Lake House is more than a seasonal retreat. It is a thoughtfully designed home that encourages families to reconnect with nature, spend meaningful time together, and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding lake environment. Through its sustainable design, warm interiors, and strong connection to the landscape, the house creates a lasting legacy—one that future generations can continue to enjoy for years to come. #lakehouse #modernarchitecture #sustainablearchitecture #passivehouse #contemporaryhome #architecturedesign #housetour #ecoarchitecture #architectureinspiration #architecturelovers
