I got one more stage to purge of apes, but before I went through that, I did a bit of a lead-in, because... THERE ARE STILL MORE MONKEYS THAN THAT! The catch is that these Monkeys can only be found after inputting a special code at the title screen. Hold all four shoulder buttons (L1/L2/R1/R2), and then press Start, and you'll go into a menu where you can input these special codes. Sometimes the game may give you these codes itself in different ways, but I showed them all off in this video. These secret codes are on a region-to-region basis. I have been playing the NTSC-US version of this game. In other words, the American release. The European and Japanese releases have different codes for mostly the same Monkeys. ---------- Here are the timestamps for each Monkey I catch this way and what US password is needed to get them to appear. Case-sensitive: 4:42 - 6:30: The Spork Monkey is unlocked after inputting "krops". He can be found in Hide-n-Seek Forest, and his apparently dressed up like Spike. It has been a while since Spike actually got to do anything big, wasn't it? ---- 6:50 - 10:04: The SAL-1000 Monkey is unlocked from inputting "grobyc". It appears in Saru-mon's Castle in a new section. You need to go into the hidden dressing room to find it, and then you'll face this Monkey in an arena. ---- 10:28 - 14:50: Winterville actually has TWO code Monkeys! The Pipotron Yellow Monkey is unlocked with "yellowy", while the Shimmy Monkey is unlocked with "2nd man". Pipotron Yellow is found in the first house you can encounter in Winterville, while Shimmy is in a new area accessed through the hidden dressing room. This Shimmy Monkey is dressed just like Jimmy. No Pipochi copy with him, though. ---- 15:14 - 16:37: The Pipotron Red Monkey is unlocked with "redmon". It is in the big playground section of Toytown with the obstacle course for your RC Car. ---- 17:00 - 21:25: The last of the Pipotron Trio, Pipotron Blue, is unlocked from inputting "coolblue". It will be in the Airplane Squadron. It is found right after you've finished your tour through the giant yellow airplane and right before you start jumping over the jet fighters. ---- 21:49 - 24:56: The Dark Master Monkey is unlocked from "blackout". It will be found in Kung-Fu Alley, in one of the office rooms. ---- 25:46 - 32:33: The last of these code Monkeys, SAL-3000, is unlocked by inputting... well... "SAL3000". Easy! This ape will be in the Space-TV Fortress, in a new room inside the hidden dressing room, which I also clear of its own Monkeys during this trip. That will be within the first studio. In this new room, you'll be in a bit of a gameshow where you have to use the Slingback Shooter to hit switches moving along one of nine different numbers. The number you hit determines the good or bad prize you get. You could get some coins or cookies or Morph Energy, or you could get wrecked by missiles or bombs or enemies. But its Switch #5 that will finally give you the secret Monkey you were looking for. You just gotta tear off its high-tech armor so badly that you end up leaving it naked! Oh... ONE MORE THING ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC MONKEY. Instead of being the SAL-3000, in the Japanese & European versions of this game, this Monkey was "Ape Ratchet", as in it was an ape dressed up like Ratchet of the Ratchet & Clank series. This Monkey even wielded Gravity Boots, a Clank Thruster Pak, and even a R.Y.N.O. (Rip You a New One). The Sony synergy was real, there. So I don't know why the American version had to change this. Very charming as possible your FINAL Monkey to catch before rematching Specter! ---------- Catching these secret code Monkeys isn't necessary to reach the grand finale of your playthrough of this game. In fact, you can catch less than the 8 I listed here, and it would still count towards that, just as along as you got all of the other Monkeys in the game, too. And now for the grand finale, itself!
