This is an authentic goan recipe made from Tisreo or clams. Goan cuisine is famous in seafood delicacies, specially the shellfish. My Mom purchased these fresh tisreo from the market this morning. When selecting clams ensure that they are not open. The tisreo should be tightly shut. The medium size tisreos are the best. They are high in Iron and Protien. They are great source of Vitamin B12. Ingredients: • ½ Kg Clams • 10 cloves • 15 pepper corns • 1 ½ tsp corrainder seeds • 1 tsp turmeric powder • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste • 1 small ball of tamarind soaked in water • 7 Green chillies • 200 gms Fresh Coconut(grated) • 3 tbsp coconut oil • 1 large Onion • 2 parts Kokum • ¼ tsp Sugar • ½ tsp Salt/adjust as per your taste ➣ Wash them thoroughly in the running water. ➣ Open up the Tisreos/clams on the traditional equipment called Adoli in Goa, you can also insert the knife between the shells and open it. Another option is to boil them with a little water. But I prefer opening them to keep the taste of the clams intact. ➣ Split open the shell and transfer the fleshy side of the shell into another bowl and discard the empty side. ➣ Separate the shells and water of the clams. ➣ Strain the liquid with the help of a strainer. ➣ Make it a smooth paste of all the ingredients. ➣ In the same blender I will coarsely grind the coconut. ➣ In a Pan add coconut Oil ➣ Once it is hot, on a medium flame add 1 Large onions(finely chopped) ➣ Add the green chillies, the chillies used are not at all spicy, so you can adjust as per your taste and spice. ➣ Once the onions become translucent, add the masala to it and fry for 1 min. ➣ Rinse the masala jar with water and add to the pan. ➣ Once the masala is roasted well, add the coarsely ground coconut. ➣ Add the clams or tisreos in the pan and also the strained water of the clams which will give an awesome flavour to the gravy. ➣ Once it starts boiling, add the tamarind water and not the pulp. ➣ Add 2 parts of kokum or bhinda solan. ➣ Add a little sugar, approx 1/4 tsp to enhance the taste and close the lid and cook for 10mins. ➣ Add a little salt approx 1/2 tsp as the clams already consists of salt, so add as per your taste, and give it a final mix. ➣ Turn off the flame and our Goan Tisreo gravy is ready.
