🥳"Nowruz" Explained. Everybody Loves English.Learn to speak and understand English.

As you all know, one thing I really love is holidays, and we have lots of holidays coming up soon! So get ready for a few more of these videos. But today, we're celebrating and talking about Nauruz! Every year, many of our Persian friends celebrate something they call, Nauruz! Nauruz is the Persian New Year and it means "NEW DAY", which makes a lot of sense since this celebration always begins on the first day of spring, and spring time always represents new beginnings. Especially after a long winter! As you probably know, most Persians live in Iran, but Nauruz is also celebrated in lots of other places too! Like Turkey, Afghanistan and many other countries. In fact, over 3000 million people around the world celebrate this holiday. And, although Nauruz has its origins in the Zoroastrian religion... Yeah that's right, I said, "Zoroastrian", you guys didn't think I knew that, did you? Well, even though Nauruz has roots in the Zoroastrian religion, it's now a secular holiday. A secular holiday is a holiday that is separate from any religion. People prepare many things before Nauruz. They clean their homes, they buy new clothes and basically get ready to have a blast with their family and friends. They also celebrate something called Red Wednesday which is on the last Wednesday before Nauruz. On Red Wednesday, children often wear sheets over their heads and their bodies as costumes and disguises. They also go door to door around their community asking their neighbors for sweets and special desserts. It sounds a little like Halloween! People go outside and make lots of noise by banging on pots and pans! They sing songs, they make special wishes and then some family members even light huge fires and take turns jumping over the fire! Nauruz also has a special character, called Amu Nauruz or in English, Uncle New Year! He has a long gray beard and wears a red costume! He brings presents to all the good children. Wait a minute. That also sounds familiar? Kind of reminds me of Santa Claus at Christmas! Dinner tables are also decorated with grass, plants and beautifully painted eggs. They call this special Nauruz table the HAFT SEEN. And THIS may remind you of Easter! This wonderful holiday which is like a Super holiday combining Christmas, Easter and even Halloween lasts for almost 2 weeks! 13 days to be exact. But guess what? Perisans have been doing it for over 3000 years! During Nauruz, families gather around the table to joke around, eat some sweets and of course take some selfies with each other. On the last day of Nauruz, people often have picnics together outside. This custom is called Sizdebedar. Do you know anyone celebrating Nauruz? If so, make sure to wish them a Happy New Year by saying Nauruz Mobarak! And if you're the one celebrating, invite your friends and neighbors to celebrate with you. Teach each other and learn from each other, In the end, all of us living here in North America are stronger and happier when we live and celebrate together. And even though we come from different countries with different traditions, we can experience all that together, you know why?
