This week’s Weekly Market Commentary (3/2) with Alex Varner (Head of Research) & James Maxwell (SVP of Research) covers: • Geopolitical Volatility & Market Rotation: Oil briefly spiked 13–15% following developments in Iran before quickly retracing. Defensive sectors — utilities, staples, healthcare — led performance, alongside continued strength in gold and silver. • PPI Surprise & Services Inflation: Producer prices came in hotter than expected, with headline PPI up 0.5% month-over-month and core up 0.8% — the largest increase since March 2022. Services inflation accelerated, potentially reflecting margin pass-through, while goods prices remained deflationary. • Construction & Private Sector Spending: Construction spending rose 0.3%, reversing recent declines, with private sector investment driving gains while public spending declined — reinforcing underlying private sector resilience. • Housing Market Crosscurrents: Home price indices (Case-Shiller & FHFA) reached new all-time highs, even as buyer demand weakens. Redfin reports 44% more sellers than buyers — one of the largest imbalances on record — raising questions about eventual price adjustments. • Manufacturing Momentum: Regional Fed indices showed improving current and future activity, with forward-looking measures broadly in expansion territory. Prices paid metrics have moderated from recent tariff-related spikes. • Consumer Confidence & Labor Normalization: Consumer confidence ticked higher, though present conditions remain subdued. Labor market differentials continue to normalize from elevated levels. Click here to read this week’s full Weekly Market Note: https://www.mainmgt.com/wp/wp-content...
