Hiking Harties River trail 8km route - First Gauteng hike in over a year!

After a long hiatus from any sort of hiking and a longer time since hiking anywhere in Gauteng we got out for an early morning hike again on Sunday (12 June). The early start and crisp winter air meant the frost had not melted yet and we were on our way! Temperatures improved from the -1deg at the beginning and it turned out to be a pleasant hiveld winter day and a great hike to hopefully get back into the swing of things! The Harties River hiking trails start on the banks of the Crocodile river (almost at the big T junction with the Sasol Garage) and go up a small koppie of what I think is the Magaliesberg range. There are 3 routes, a 10km, an 8km and a 6km. The 6km route is out and back again while the 8 and 10km routes are circular loops. Well marked for the most part, we did get lost once near the Houtbosdorp Self Catering camoing chalets but quickly found our way back to the path with the QR code map!
