He creates ambiguous optical dimensions with gestural marks and coordinated color relationships, addressing the perception of pictorial space. His works present a meditative tension, simultaneously triggering tactile appreciation and visual engagement. Their perceptual ambiguity unfolds in a contemplative space, hovering between recognition and abstraction. ◆ Yuma Yoshimura（ユウマ・ヨシムラ）◆ ⁡ 1980年 東京生まれ。2004年多摩美術大学絵画学科卒業。両極性を持つ素材やテーマをもとに、モノクロームを基調とした平面・立体・インスタレーション作品を制作している。光と陰、反射と吸収、無限性と有限性、秩序と混沌といった相反する要素を通じて、内面と外部のつながりを探ろうとしている。主な個展に「In-to-You」(A Word of Art / ケープタウン / 2011年)、「The BurningSilence」(Montana Gallery / バルセロナ / 2013 年)、「beyond theshapes」(Calm&Punk Gallery / 東京 / 2017年)、「うしろとか向かない」(TAKUSOMETANI GALLERY / 東京 / 2022年)がある。2021年にオルタナティブ・スペース MONO.LOGUES の運営を開始。 ⁡ Yuma Yoshimura was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1980. He received a B.F.A. from the Department of Painting at Tama ArtUniversity in 2004 and currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. He creates two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and installation works based on materials and themes that embody duality, with a monochrome aesthetic as the foundation. Through contrasting elements such as light and shadow, reflection and absorption,infinity and finiteness, and order and chaos, he explores the connection between the inner self and the external world. In 2021, he launched the alternative space MONO.LOGUES. His main solo exhibitions include: “In-to-You” (2011/ A Word of Art/Cape Town), “The Burning Silence” (2013/ Montana Gallery/ Barcelona), “beyond the shapes” (2017/ Calm & Punk Gallery/ Tokyo), and “ushirotoka-mukanai” (2022/ TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY/ Tokyo) ⁡ ＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿ 《Exhibition contents》 Thomas Gillantは視覚認知をテーマに、スプレーガン、ブラシ、ローラーを用いた油彩技法によって視覚と物質の関係を探求しています。手作業と機械的プロセスが交差することで生まれるストロークは、奥行きや運動感を生み出し視覚と物質の関係性を再考させます。また、ジェスチャーの痕跡が積層することで、画面上に時間の蓄積が現れ絵画としての存在に新たな次元をもたらします。 Yuma Yoshimuraは、光と影、無限性と有限性など両極性をもった素材やテーマを基調とし、内面と外部を繫ぐ視覚言語の確立を試みています。アルミニウムや炭といった物質の表面を削り彫り込みを施し、痕跡としての造形を生み出すそのプロセスは彫刻でありながら絵画的でもあります。特にYoshimuraの作品には、原始美術を想起させる直感的な造形が見られ、物質との身体的な対話が強く意識されています。 本展では、描く／削るといった二人の異なる手法によって生まれた痕跡が共鳴し、新たな空間を形作ります。静止した作品の中に動きや変化を感じる事で、視覚と触覚の境界を探る新たな体験へと導きます。 Thomas Gillant examines the relationship between sight and matter through oil painting techniques, employing spray guns, brushes, and rollers to explore the dynamics of visual perception. His strokes, created through the intersection of manual and mechanical processes, generate a sense of depth and motion, prompting viewers to reconsider the interplay between vision and materiality. Through the accumulation of gestural traces, his paintings embody a layered temporality, expanding the notion of a painting as a physical object. Yuma Yoshimura, on the other hand, constructs a visual language that bridges the internal and external, working with materials and themes characterized by dualities—light and shadow, infinity and finitude. By cutting and carving surfaces of materials such as aluminum and charcoal, he creates forms as traces. His process, which oscillates between sculptural and painterly approaches, allows light and shadow to interact dynamically, producing a shimmering effect within the space. Yoshimura’s works, with their intuitive forms reminiscent of primitive art, emphasize a deep engagement with the physicality of materials. In this exhibition, traces created by different techniques, such as drawing and carving, resonate together to form a new space.
