This video was shot on February 23. 2012. I caught up with this freight after it went by my house. I saw it was a westbound “Hill Job” being powered once again by three locomotives on the head end. Also Sierra’s first generation Genset #52 was the lead power unit. This sight was extremely rare so I knew it was a must for a video catch! I caught up with the train at Sierra Rock. The crew this day was extra friendly as the conductor gave me a big wave as the lead loco powered by me. I followed the job through some of the most scenic areas on the Sierra between Jamestown and Chinese Camp. The train stopped at the Sierra Pacific lumber mill at Chinese Camp so I decided to stick around to catch some switching. On this day the job picked up the usual lumber loads, but also a hopper car they had dropped off prior. This is something that happens every now and again, but definitely not an every day pick up on this job. Again I get a friendly wave from the conductor while riding the rear end of a tank car😁. The mid-power loco on this train was ex-UPY Genset #2638. I had not seen this loco on too many “Hill Jobs” up to this point and I believe had not yet captured it on video up to this point as well, so I took the opportunity to get a closer look. The video closes with the train climbing Chinese Hill, a relatively easy climb for the extra power on this day. Sit back and enjoy the rare catch and the beauty of western Tuolumne County.
